Copying Files from a Mac to a USB Flash Drive

A branded USB drive is a fantastic, portable tool you can use to store information from your Mac and carry it with you anywhere you go. You can use a custom USB flash drive to store files that are too big to keep on your Mac’s hard drive (such as video or music files) as they just take up space you may need for other files. You can also use a custom USB flash drive to transfer files from one Mac to another Mac located somewhere else (such as from office to home, or vice-versa).

Copying your files to a branded USB drive is incredibly easy, and learning how to do it will take you just a few moments. To transfer files from any Mac to a branded USB drive, just complete the following steps:

  1. Insert the custom USB flash drive into any of your Mac’s available USB ports.
  2. An icon for your custom USB flash drive (a white hard disk with the name USB Disk printed beneath it) will automatically appear on your Desktop as well as in your Finder window.
  3. Double-click on this branded USB drive icon.
  4. Double-click your Macintosh Hard Drive (printed Macintosh HD).
  5. Locate the files you wish to transfer to your custom USB flash drive.
  6. Drag each file from your Macintosh Hard Drive to your branded USB drive by:
    1. Placing the cursor over the file
    2. Holding down the mouse button (DON’T RELEASE IT)
    3. Moving the mouse until the highlighted file and cursor both move across the screen from your Macintosh Hard Drive to the window for your custom USB flash drive

And that’s it. Repeat these steps with each file you which to transfer until all of them appear in the window for your custom USB flash drive.

Once you have successfully transferred all the files you want to transfer, you must next eject your branded USB drive properly in order to avoid damaging your custom USB flash drive or corrupting your files. To do it, simply close the branded USB drive window and drag the USB disk icon to your trash.

Once this icon for your custom USB flash drive vanishes from your screen, you can now safely remove the branded USB drive from your Mac’s USB port.

Now you know all you need to know to copy your files from a Mac to a branded USB drive, which means you now possess the ability to take your valuable files with you everywhere you go and free up needed space on your Mac.
